I was reading the Seattle Times a blurb about a man in Wisconsin who while working as a salesman accumulated one million miles over 17 years while driving a Saab. I had the original article on paper, but here is a similar article about the same man. Google will turn up lots more.

The Times article claimed no engine rebuild!! One tranny rebuild around 200k, and a couple of hoods/fenders from hitting eight deer. The frame apparently was dangerously rusted, which is why the owner decided to donate it to a local museum.
He claims to have been religious about fluid changes and general maintenance.
I think that he must have driven at reasonable top speeds most of the time, on long trips. Thus reducing the number of heat cycles the engine went through (more miles per heat cycle).

Running some numbers...moose60 wrote:I was reading the Seattle Times a blurb about a man in Wisconsin who while working as a salesman accumulated one million miles over 17 years while driving a Saab. -SNIP- http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/press/060918.html -SNIP-
Out of 365 days in a year, assuming 264 actual days driven, that's 4488 driving days in 17 years.
That estimates out to 223 miles per driving day ... AVERAGE, for 17 yrs ... as a solo driver. Or, about 60k per year.
When I was driving line haul as a solo driver, my monthly average mileage ranged between 9-11.5 k miles per month.
Hope that man was getting paid for all that windshield time!

I met this guy years ago in Colorado Springs. He is from New York and has driven the car all over the world.
Here is an article link as well:

ONE rebuild at 675,000 miles, but that is it. PRETTY AMAZING!
