Torque convertor lockup

Is the torque convertor lockup mechanically controlled or electrically??
There's times I'd like to delay the T/C lockup. Like going up hills.

Unfortunately, on the L3N71B it's hydraulically controlled. It unlocks when the kickdown switch is closed, but you also drop back to 2nd gear in that instance.
