Need help 1982 720-D need to Chang water fuel filter

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

If you are talking about the screw on filter, remove the old one and install the new one. Open (loosen) the bleeder screw(s) on the IP, use the hand pump to suck fuel through until you see little or no bubbles. Tighten (close) the bleeder screw. Start the truck and let it run a few moments. You are finished.

EDIT:You have this listed under LD engines, i will guess it is a SD22.

I have always just filled the filter full of diesel before screwing it on, is this bad?
Doing it that way I have never had to bleed or prime anything, I just start the engine and run it for a few minutes, never had an issue yet.
I know the voices are not real,

As long as no trash gets in, that will work.

I use clean fuel and a new filter, don't do it very often, but change the pre-filter a lot.

I actually don't get this forum yet, but i see that I was notified about two replies, so it does work now.

You should not fill the big (secondary) fuel filter with fuel when changing it, as you are putting un-filtered fuel in there and some will make it to the IP. You may think your fuel is clean, but it isn't. Contaminants are measured in microns, and you can't see microns.

X2 on not filling the Spin-On filter out of a fuel can. every time fuel is filled from one container to another, there is always the chance of dirt or water transferring from source to another.

I usually fill my filters with ATF from a new bottle or Diesel purge, and then start the engine.

Screwing on an empty Filter and pumping the primer Pump, takes a lot of pumping.

DO NOT pour the fuel out of the old filter to the new one. Another Forum Iam on a guy was doing this. It just dumps the contaminates into the new filter.

You need to keep things as clean as possible.
