Power outage in PNW

Major storm blew through here, power went out Sat, 04:30am. PSE's automated line said it'd be back up Sun 6am, at 6am they said 11am, at noon they said 4pm, Is still not up at Sun, 5:30p.

[later: at 6pm the info system finally gave me accurate info: "we do not have an estimated time to repair".]

I have borrowed a small Chinese genset from work (3.5Kw) and can run ONE server from it -- two of the three UPSs will not even kick off with this POS genset, the third (and antique APC 1000VAC server unit) will at least accept its power without completely barfing, but if I add more than three HDDs or one CPU, it cycles ON/OFF line power.

Anyway . . . it's likely that the site will go down and up for at least one more day. I bought $15 of gasoline for this Chinese POS, but I can't really let it run overnight, I think. It'll probably melt down. At least it will run the well pump.

Power was supposed to come on at 1am Monday, came on at 3am . . . went back off at 4:30am. Still off at 8:20am. Might be on by 11am -- yeah, right.

7:30pm, still no power. The recorded message says that out of 140,000 people whose power was affected by the storm Friday night, only my isolated area of 800 people are still without power, and they estimate having it up by 10pm Monday night. If you've read this far, you know I'm not holding my breath.

yeah i would defnintley avoid running those chinese generators for more than a few hours, it might explode

Fortunately (or unfortunately), it's borrowed. I don't buy much in the way of Chinese tools. Yet. They may come up to acceptable quality someday.

I'm running it right now, but will shut it down in about an hour. If power does, indeed, come on at 10pm as promised, I'll immediately bring the server back up, but for now I can really only run it while I'm home and I can't run the genset overnight -- it's really not rated for that kind of duty cycle, and it's noisy and expensive.

OK, it's 1:30am Tues, and power's back on. Let's hope it's on for more than 90 minutes like last time.

Gotta get up in 2.5 hrs, travel two counties + ferry for a "free" lunch & seminar. Oh, goody.

I guess that may explain why I've tried to visit the website the past three days and each time I tried the page would not come up. I thought the website was down and not operating right. This is the first time I've visited the site since February 3. I'm glad it loaded up no problem when I clicked on it under my "favorite websites" menu. Hope everything is good to go and the power is straight.

It seems that the power stayed on all day -- I was away 12 hours, no incidents logged. The damned router locked up again, but at least the power stayed on.

On the router: I'm working to acquire a more robust replacement. The Actiontec 1520 has served me rather well for hobby use until recently, but it does not enjoy a great reputation. I've got a later GT701-WG, but it won't quite work, even after factory reset, so it may be toast. I've an industrial Cisco 827 but it's a big PITA to use. I don't know which direction I'll go.
