SD Valve Covers

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

A place to compare various SD valve covers?

That level of cleanliness reflects about a half-hour's worth of cleaning.

I removed it to adjust valves a month or so ago. I notice the tapped hole for the fitting and hose on top Al. What is the purpose of the vacumn like line that attaches to the fitting that's threaded into the cover next to the aft bolt? DQ.

I don't know; I haven't seen a hose like that, except as a crankcase breather on later units. Maybe Philip will post one of his SD25 pics here with that setup.

I'd have to see ... to understand.

Here's something unusual. The oil screwed cap is in the center.

What is that fastened to the top of the FP? Also, what is fastened to the front of the timing cover? A tach drive of some kind? They had a thing that fit on the marine industrial engines that drove a cable or electric tach but it sure did not look like that.
