The essentially same Wagon in Portland is on eBay and is about to end -- two hours to go, and it's at $305.

The Portland car is a sedan, and there are pictures now, but it took the lister several days to get them posted. The front end looks pretty beat-up and the car looks like it's been sitting for a while. The wheels are interesting though...kind of like those.

He had an early bid but after the pictures were posted I assume everyone recognized the amount of damage that needed to be dealt with. I wonder if the buyer isn't looking for the crank to be honest.

Well, well, well. I actually bought this guys' car from him 2 days ago for $380. Probably the reason for the steep price drop is the car stopped running and I am unsure why. At the time he had it for $700, I offered him told him $350 since I could not hear the car run. I am hoping I did not make a mistake by buying the car without hearing it run. I took his word for it that it was running until "a few days ago." We settled on $400 (he credited me $20 as he wanted the battery from the car, which was an energizer and the parts store said they do not make a battery for that car)Anyway, it is actually a 1983 wagon, not an '82. I haven't been a member of this sight long enough to be able to navigate through it very well and find quick answers to typical problems. I suspect some corroded wiring but that is purely speculation at this point.

Mom always said it was a small world.

An '83 Wagon, even non-running, for that price is probably a very Good Deal.

Reasons why an LD28 won't start are limited. Definitely check the FAQ first, Common Problems section specifically.

Also ArcataLibra's thread, and atalamark's thread, where at some point I have covered the hot no-start topics.

To simplify: if it cranks and won't fire, check for voltage above 10v at the No. 1 glow plug during main glow sequence -- you have about seven seconds to check, so hook up your voltmeter before turning on the key. If no power or very low power, the GP fusible link (right off the battery positive terminal) is a very common failure point (in fact, I bought this 1983 Sedan a month ago for $50 because the mechanic couldn't start it without ether -- it was a bad GP fusible link connector, and I drove it home without having to use ether!).

If voltage to GPs in that test, use the hand primer pump to check for air in the IP (or clogged filter). Steve wrote up a nice procedure with pictures in this post.

After that, check for power at the IP Fuel Cut solenoid (arcatalibra's thread shows where) and listen for the "click" of the solenoid when you apply power to it manually.

All good so far? IP Belt is stripped or broken, more than likely. I will probably be changing one this weekend on that $50 '83 Sedan mentioned above, and will be taking pics, but I've covered the basics without pics in the FAQ mentioned above, check it out.

The guy I bought it from had no battery holder and had a battery fall and break. There are wires that seem to the starter (two fairly large wires). Both are fried with one of them broken and the other very corroded. I am sure that is at least part of the problem as the starter is just spinning and not engaging the flywheel.
