Re: sd25 injection pump
When you find a working SD25, EITHER injection pump will be on the engine.

Re: sd25 injection pump
Let us start ... simple.
Your SD has no injection pump?
Then .... you need to discover when of two major types the IP are. Bosch inline IP, or the Bosch VE. Look at your block where your IP used to be. There's an opening hole (approximately 2" dia) with THREE or FOUR studs that secured the IP to the cam gear plate. How many studs do you see? THREE means use the VE ... FOUR means use the "inline."
[added by Admin: pic of timing cover mounting for the Inline IP: four mounting studs. (click on image for larger)]

Also, about your injection pipe lines. Where they used to secure to the IP, are four closer to the oil filter or, four inline closer to the side of the cylinder head?
It's a lot of extra work for you to change from one type to the other.

This is a good deal harder. I don't know any IP numbers for the VE-style IP for the SD25.
Perhaps Pauly in BC Alberta can get the numbers from his?

Re: sd25 injection pump
Narrow it down. You will not find VE for SD25 in USA. So look in Canada, Australia, etc. Bosch made a couple of versions of VE for the SD23 & SD25 (ie, with/without altitude compensator, timing advance, various shims, etc).nissandentel wrote:![]()

OOOOOOH! YESSSS: find 3 studs, I'm on the good way....that mean a "VE" pump. Now, Bosch make's a lot of "VE"pump. How can I know the good type of pump I can buy used and make it overall??
Now I did fine some Pump#'s. For SD25: 104740-4160. For SD23: 104740-4260 and 1046740-4300.
Since you think you have an SD25, are you SURE it's not an SD23? Look on the block, about 4 inches below #1 and #2 glow plugs.

i know this will be frowned upon, and prehaps is abit heath robinson, but you can make a mechanical ve type pump work..(but get one off a 2.5l 4 cylinder non turbo INDIRECT INJECTION engine)
AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE IP TOOTHED SPROCKET AND ADVANCER TIMING MECHANISIM just about any n/a IDI 4 cylinder ve pump will fit and work..it may take abit of setting up,but if you find one off a 2.5l n/a engine it will be in the right ball park..
this i have done succsefully more than once,(though on 2.5l ford engine)
i know it is not the "right" way to do things, but if it saves you $1000 or you cant get the correct ip it is better than scrapping a lovely nissan..

While the OEM pump will bolt on and fit right, if you are adventurous and daring (and can find the timer gear that mates to the SD's drive up front: would an SD22 timer gear work? No, because the VE advances internally, and the Inline IP on the SD22 has an advancing timer gear), I would think you can make an SD25 run using a VE-style IP from a non-SD application. Care would have to be made about the max governed speed, and overfuelling is a possibility, but it should run.
Run well? Probably not. It is very easy to overfuel an SD, they don't breath like a VW 1.6l for example but the 1.6l probably uses the smaller plunger diameter anyway -- so overfuelling at the top end and underfuelling at low end?? Lots of possibilities.
I would make that route a fallback possibility -- and even then, you will want to watch the EGT.

I looked for the number on my pump and cannot find it. That is not to say its not there though. There is a machined flat spot on the right side and there are some symbols ( Japanese I think) stamped there and someting below them but it is behind the CSD. I used a mirror to try and see what it says, or is, and cannot make anything out. There are two small holes that you would expect to see some small rivets in as well. I am not sure if there was a tag there at one time or not, there does not appear to have been, but again, I am not certain. The FSM does not list pump model other that it being a VE type. You may call GCL fuel systems in Calgary and tell them what you have ie; 1980's?? SD25 with VE type pump, and they will most likely be able to tell you what you need in the way of a VE style of pump. They will also be able to sell you one, but I would suspect that it would be around the $2000.00 mark or perhaps even more.
They will have all the specs on the engine and subsequently be able to fuel it and govern it for that application and send it to you. I suspect that the pump will be worth more than the truck. http://www.gclfuelsystems.com/.
