Are you looking for an SD22?

I bought one today, delivered to my work and put on a pallet. Local mechanic who knows I work with Nissan diesels sold it to me. He was selling it for someone else, not much history at all on it. It has been pulled and stored for a long time. GPs were out, injectors and lines were loose, supposedly the cylinders were oiled before putting into storage. No alternator, vacuum pump fitting welded closed, water pump bearing shot and all the plastic fan blades busted off. IP mode lever will go into "Run" and "Start" but only halfway to "Stop". IPC motor present, rod to mode lever missing. Oil filter bent, like the engine got rolled onto the side.

I put about three hours into it tonight, replaced its bad starter, tightened up things that were loose, and got it fired up. It idles high and blows massive black smoke, which is the symptom of a perforated IP pneumatic governor diaphragm. The No. 4 injector/line is leaking too.

It might be a runner if the diaphragm was replaced, new water pump, fix the No. 4 injector leak, adjust valves, etc. etc. Or, it might be a "rebuildable core".

Yours for $400, and I can fire it up and you can be enveloped in black smoke too. If you want the trans (unknown condition), add $100. A spare IP (entire) from a JY rig, add $50 (I get $100 for them separately, but this would be a package deal). Comes with the cleaned/working starter I hung on it but no alternator.

Update: pneumatic governor diaphragm is OK, it's the rack that's frozen. Tapping it, I can get it to move, but the IP would have to come apart I think. I'm now bundling a spare IP with this deal, for the same $400.

I can get it to idle now. No untoward noises. Not smoking too badly, but can't idle it long with no water circulation, and of course I can't rev it up much with the frozen IP rack. But it seems like it bears further investigation and sounds like it may be worth the effort. But not by me.

I've sold the 5-spd trans for $100, and Bill tells me it has new front brgs and runs quiet down the road.

I still have the engine, WP, spare IP.
