adjustiing valve clearances when engine is cold

adjustiing valve clearances when engine is cold
my manual states to adjust my valve clearances when engine(sd25) is hot 0.014 inch 14 thou is it possable to do this cold say 20 thou to allow for metal expansion when hot any one know if can be done save me pulling off rockercover again

tappet clearances would be similar to a J13 nissan of the 60's.
last nissan i know of with hot/cold settings was the 910 bluebird-
intake was HOT/COLD--0.012/0.008
exhaust was hot/cold 0.012/0.009
never found these to be correct.its best to remove the top after its been run and the engine is at real normal temp.
if its a new engine the top cover will need to be removed to tension bolts.
what part of OZ are you from.

im north of port stephens in karuah valley.
the value is correct-thats why I added it.
the head and other parts will expand more that a valve stem.its somthing you need to look at-bluebird-pintara-suzuki loves to have the tappet touched-other never need to.
too big of a gap and the tappet contacts when the cam has passed the ramp area and it pounds the stem.pushrod engines have a rotating cam follower if these stick or worn then its hard to get the clearances.
I set the CA20[OHV] a little tighter as they tended to rattle with some customers complaining.the newer TB/TD 42 patrol is a problem due to camshaft/follower problems.
cant say i worried about navara too much.
I did my training at the end of the old days passing the gauge in with engine running.[black oil all over] and adjusting hydrolic lifters[holden] with the engine running.tighten untill it misfires then back off.

yeah ended up doing them thismorning warmed up engine then set them put new rockers on yesterday spare set i had in garage motors making knocking noise when cold didnt make much difference cant pin point it next thing maybe change inlet/exaust gasket might be leak there not really obvious its coming from there but lost for answers put new head on old one cracked wasnt doing it before changed head but doing it after so maybe thats the prob onlly seven bolts and 10.oo dollars for gasket so ill give that a go

some engines make a knocking cold-have a search on this forum sounds like the timing is wrong when cold-due to fuel not burning properly when cold.soot on injectors ect[??].
not cold enough yet for real winter diesel you might have to enquire up the mountians----and some service stations are selling all sorts of brews.
you may need to put a little kero or auto/trans oil in with the diesel.some use petrol but i like kero.
dont know how good this new low sulphour diesel is-most complain about it-its like the bio diesel thing that some are happy-some not.

not much.i had a 20 liter drum of houshold kero that lasted a winter.
some nissan diesel types have in work shop manual do not use kero.
others are up to 30%.i dont have a sd book.the kero is used to mix the fuel up and stop the waxes seporatng and gives it a lower flash point.
its a bit like using LPG-you use about 10-20%-
