On occasions too numerous to mention, I have returned to one of my previous posts to edit some text, add/edit a picture, upload a replacement picture, etc. Does the system software send out a "notice" that a modification has been made to a post and that those having an interest in that post might revist that thread?

Though I wish for such a feature, no, it doesn't.

That's why I have a thread in the LD28 forum whose title is "FAQ has been updated", to which I append a post every time I update the FAQ.

It's free software (phpBB). Feel free to recommend other software. Or browse the "MODs" section of phpBB and see if there's a "mod" for this feature. There are hundreds of add-ons (mods) available for it. I added about six that make life easier, but at one point I added a mod that screwed up the login process, and I had to re-install, which was a lousy way to throw away a Saturday.

I bow to you on the software stuff. I would classify myself as a very high end user. LOL

Regarding the phpBB software, it has crossed my mind what would happen to all the SD22 content were you to close down your "service." I'd hate to see all the contributions disappear from public view. Is there something akin to an "archive file" that anyone else with the phpBB software and that archive file could set up a server to continue the website?

Maybe. There is a built-in backup sort of thing that can archive the whole site. I don't use it: I run other backup routines instead.

There might be a mod that does something different. I don't have a lot of interest in this -- of course. I'm not planning on migrating "my" site's content to another location. The goal is to drive more people to this site, so synergy happens. If content were easily moved to another site, then the possibility exists of two sites with same (sorta) content, and momentum is lost for the first site. I didn't copy posts that others made on MSN's site for that reason: it wasn't mine to copy.
