sd25 2wd vs sd25 4x4

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

sd25 2wd vs sd25 4x4

hey all. I'm a first time poster. recently managed to stumble on 2 87 d21 pickups with the sd25 diesel + fs5w71c 2wd 5spd.

I'm going to hopefully make at least 1 run for my truck as i will have any donor items i should need. but i do have a couple questions i wouldn't mind clarified if anyone can.

im aware i will need to swap:
-fuel tank, possibly fuel lines
-electrical if any + gauge cluster
-front belhousing case swap.

what i need clarified
-oil pan + sump
-motor mounts

my 92 d21 KC 4x4 5spd. ka24e. i understand the 2wd oil pan doesn't clear the front diff. I also understand the oil pump is different for a 2wd to a 4x4. from the research i think the 4x4 pump looks like it fits the same as 2wd other then the pick-up tube is to the side and much lower. I've also found that the navara (jdm d21) came with the sd25 4x4 stock.

so would it be possible to have some asian/australian friend order a sump and oil pan from nissan? i like http://www.courtesynissan.com but they dont list the diesel with their diagrams, and doubtful local dealer will help for jdm 4x4 parts. Id just need part #'s maybe, as i work at nissan industrial I should be able to locate stuff.

des anyone make a dry sump kit for the sd25? I've searched and turned up nothing... but it could be possible to modify another dry sump pan to fit from another nissan? i only have a ca18det, and a couple ka24e's on 4x4 and 2wd blocks around

also do the motor mounts fit? or are they a few inches further forward then my ka24e? or is it the v6 thats different?

the bellhousing swap is discussed in great deal in several forums, Im about to do the same and the descriptions really dont sound too bad.

I thought I saw a 720 4x4 on ebay australia-if so you may be able to find an oil pan and pump via australia or aus ebay.

The fuel tank is real simple as all you need is a supply line from the tank and a return line. Id recomend using the diesel tank if you have it as it is over 20 gallons and is set up for diesel, the gas tank has extra lines and may have an internal pump. Also if you plan on using biodiesel in the future, good time to swap in metal lines.

thats all I got.

ya ive done belhousing swaps before and had a few of these trans apart. i have a spare bearing and synco set aswell. i also found out that the diesel 2wd should have same gear ratio as 4cyl gas 4x4. since i have a spare 4x4 trans with a blown 5th. I have a prime parts to do what ever I need to, too make a minty rebuilt trans. since the 4x4 trans was working fine just no 5th. soo minus shifter, and t-case... gotta find spare those lol.

as for the fuel tank yes i have one. and it is a very bad idea to use a gasoline tank for diesel. gasoline tanks have a galvanized lining that diesel will remove. your filters will for ever plug and if your really unlucky your injection pump will go. so other then the fact of extra lines and the need to remove the high pressure pump and put a sump line in place you will need to get the tank epoxied or something to prevent the galvanized metal from getting into your fuel.

and I'm trying to make contact with afew australians on http://www.navara.asia this is a good jdm forum for our trucks

ya spotted that one too. I emailed him. I also found a new 720 4x4 pump on ebay. the seller is adimit that d21 never had a diesel in north america tho, so not very helpful. so not sure if its worth the risk or not.

you should order it!

...my ulterior motive is that I may need to do the same when I hook the front driveshaft on my Willys with a sd22.
