Please, if anyone knows of someone who would be willing to put these Wagons back into service, contact me soon. Time is running out for them.
If'n I wanted to take on yet another project -- and I don't -- I have for a limited time, access to a pair of free 1986 Buick Electra Estate Wagons, and I'd just love to drop a 6.2l diesel/700-R4 in the green one. Located in Carlton, Ore. (think McMinnville). If anybody would like info on this pair of Wagons, please contact me, they are about to be sent off to very likely become either junkyard fodder or worse, demo derby cars.
The green one ("Marty") I know a lot about, I've been maintaining it for years. It now is reported to have a very leaky rear main seal and the engine has been tired for a long time. No dents, but the tailgate has been replaced with a white one from a Chev. wagon so its paint doesn't match. Green velour interiour, green/woodgrain ext. Decent paint, woodgrain faded, Les Schwab rims and good rubber, extra mounted snow tires. The ill-fated GM electric assist power brakes (one year only!) have been converted back to reliable vacuum assist already! Climate control works. Been sitting three years in a barn, has been outside for the past three months and is under a tree, so pigeon shit and leaves are accumulating. No battery.
Other Wagon ("Goldie") is also an '86, low miles and was a good runner. It hit the back of a transit bus hard, which ripped off the front half of the passenger fender, grille bad too. Hood & windshield & bumper are OK though. Just needs a inner & outer fender. However, the RR quarter panel got pushed in a bit too, and both taillights are bad though maybe useable. I believe that Goldie has also had the power brake fix applied. There are numerous spare parts in a couple of apple boxes that I'd collected over the years that go with these Wagons.
Easiest fix would be to either hang a fender on Goldie, or put Goldie's engine in Marty.
I would really, really like to find somebody to take on these Wagons. I just can't take on another project right now, and truthfully couldn't use either Wagon when they are running. They are both salvageable rigs and very comfortable drivers. These are the huge, full-frame Wagons of yesteryear, the ones that SUVs and minivans are supposed to replace.
Please, if anyone knows of someone who would be willing to put these Wagons back into service, contact me soon. Time is running out for them.
