I saw a little Mazda pickup on Seattle Craigslist today which has been repowered with an SD 22. If I didn't own one allready.. I was initially interested because of the mini-Perkins engines that these trucks have, then I read the ad again. Still sounds neat.
Not a bad little truck, It was gas and now is powered by an SD22 Nissan diesel. Clean interior, needs little things done but can be a daily driver now. Gets about 40 mpg. 360-337-1966

I thought Mazda used their own diesel in the PU. They certainly did in the 626 diesel, and a Mazda diesel was used in the early Ford Ranger PUs. But I'm not really up on them.

Al, in a way you are right about what you thought but you somewhat need to know the history on it. And I myself don't know all of it either. The 82-84 Mazda B2200 pickups and 83-84 Ford Ranger pickups used what's called the S2 diesel engine. It's built by Mazda, but the original design comes from Perkins (a 4.135 engine). So really it is a little Perkins diesel engine. I know a good bit about the trucks because I own an 83 B2200 diesel that I bought back in August 2005. Great little truck, but I wasn't able to drive it for more than 10 days because the frame turned out to be more rusted out then I had thought it was. After finding that out I knew it wouldn't pass Pennsylvania inspection and it has sat on our property ever since.
