1981 NISSAN / DATSUN 720 DIESEL
Let’s face it, you are looking at this ad because you like Diesels, or you like old Datsun pickups.
This is a 1981 Datsun / Nissan 720 pickup, King Cab, 2wd, manual 5 speed transmission, and did I say it has the SD22 DIESEL engine.

The good:
• Mechanically, this is in really good shape despite its age and the fact that it was obviously been used a lot.
• The engine runs very well. It emits white smoke (unburned fuel) when it starts cold, but after a few minutes and has warmed up, it emits no smoke at all. It could probably do well with some new glow plugs, but it starts without any trouble at all.
• It has a new alternator and new battery.
• The brakes are in good shape. It has a relatively new master cylinder.
• Clutch is good, also with a relatively new cylinder.
• The rear suspension has Hellwig type overload springs, as well as air adjustable shocks. In all the pictures shown, the air pressure was set at about 80PSI.
• All the glass is intact, no cracks or dings whatsoever. The skylight seal had rotted away, so I sealed it shut with marine grade sealant.
• It has a draw-tight type tow hitch.

The bad:
• Well, just look at it. The body is basically rusting away around the frame and engine. It is an old, beat up truck.
• You can see through sections of the floor and bed.
• The heater / defogger blower is not working.
• The front end is somewhat loose.


This could be a lot of things to a lot of people, for you Bio-Diesel people, this could be the perfect grease collection vehicle (why make a mess in your nice Jetta?). It could be just a parts vehicle, a project vehicle, or it could serve as a perfect base vehicle for your Burning Man art car.

• You can see through sections of the floor and bed. It is especially bad in the passenger side floor.

• The heater / defogger blower is not working.

• The front end is somewhat loose. There is excessive backlash in the steering gear. It needs to be adjusted. All the steering linkage bushings are OK,though.
