Various errors in FSMs

Hey all
I was looking at the 1983 FSM I got the other day and noticed something that didn't look right compared to what I thought I had seen in the 1982 FSM I have. Today I was able to confirm that the resistance readings for the glow plug water temp sensor, as printed in the 1982 FSM (August 1981 printing) that I have are not correct when compared to the 1983 FSM.

You'll notice that the decimal point is in the wrong place for 1982. The readings shown in the 1983 FSM are more believable.

Now I'm not sure that my water temp sensor is at fault here! My sensor was within the specs listed for the 1983 FSM.

BTW, this is on EL-38 of the 1983 FSM and EL-42 of the 1982 FSM.

Another good catch, Steve!

I think I may re-title this thread and make it a sticky (stays at the top). I'm going to update the '83 FSM EL-13 diagram on the starter wiring (now that I've figured out which wire goes where) that I annotated (in this thread), and put it here as well.

I've found a couple of other misteaks in the FSMs over time, and it'd be nice to collect the whole set -- here.

Sounds like a winner to me. It would be nice to collect all the errors and deposit them in one place, makes for easier reference.

Here's the most recent error I've found in the 1983 FSM, pg EL-13. The connector that mates the main harness to the engine harness (in front of IP, above lower radiator hose) has an incorrect pin assignment on one half. Click on image below for larger (908k) image.

Here's the most recent error I've found in the 1983 FSM, pg EL-94:
Schematic/Time Control System

The box indicating "Voice Warning Device" at the upper left of page says,

(Refer to page EL-78)

should read

(Refer to page EL-89)

I haven't checked the '81 FSM, but these next errors are in the '82, '83, & '84 FSMs.

1)
1982: Page EL-66, 73
1983: Page EL-67, 72

The SL (and all 1984s) , which has an add'l oil pressure gauge and voltmeter, has two V/Rs: one feeds the Oil Pressure & Fuel, the other the Temp gauge only.

The (non-SL gasser, and diesel) utilizes only one V/R, which feeds the Fuel and Temp gauges.

The wiring diagram and schematic show only the SL model information, not the diesel/non-SL gasser info. Earlier in the FSMs (pages EL-64-5 in both FSMs) the instrument cluster wiring is quite different between SL and (non-SL (gasser) and diesel) models.

Also, same VR mixed Ground/Output wiring as problem 2) below. Corrected in image below.

1983: Page EL-72
1984: Page EL-61

The wiring diagram for the first voltage regulator ("V/R") (the one that -- in the diagram -- feeds both the oil pressure gauge (SL models that have one) and the fuel level gauge (all models) is incorrect.

The second voltage regulator is shown with three connections: Hot, Output, and Ground: correct. The first V/R only shows two, and is wrong.

1982 & 1983 only:
All above referenced pages show a "Mileage Switch" for the gasser's O2 sensor/EGR maintenance reminder, which the diesel does not have. When the switch is referenced in diagrams, it ought to have "except diesel" next to it. See my added note in first pic above.

Voice Warning System interaction with radio/speaker wiring

1982 FSM:

The Voice Warning System schematic is on pg EL-77, and the wiring diagram (showing all connectors involved) is on the page following.

The radio wiring diagram (showing connectors) is on EL-129. It's a bit misleading.

The Voice Warning System apparently is wired to directly interrupt the LF speaker -- see connector 73M on EL-77. However, the radio wiring diagram on EL-129 doesn't reflect that at all. Misleading!
