LD28 parts for sale or trade

#1

Post by DMS »

I have 2 heads, 1 maxima intake, 1 egr equiped exhaust manifold, a crank to anyone who wants to fiddle with trying to magniflux it, 3 or 4 extra L28 turbo exhaust manifolds, 2 alternators, 2 front timing covers with everything still on them, and 1 auto box. I only really need a harmonic balancer or two. I might consider other parts. Make offers

All good parts.

Is Hollister in Calif.? If so, I go right by there on 101 once or twice a year to visit my father in SoCal. I might need a spare autobox (L3N71b: 1982 ONLY); I noticed while towing recently that manual upshift to 2nd is getting a bit sloppier than I like -- full-throttle upshift, that is. I'm sure it will only get worse with the turbo added. Make me a deal, and I might bite.

While I've got three L4N71bs, they won't fit in the '82 chassis.

I'm not interested in a 1981 3N71b (though it's probably a bolt-in for an '82), as I like the lockup torque converter too much.

Looking at the map, you're just north of my (so far) favourite Calif. highway: 198, from San Lucas to Coalinga. I try to drive that one pretty much every time I'm in the area. I took a bunch of pics of the San Lucas end of it last December:

Al, the 81 diesels did have a L3N71B. I can attest to the lockup at 37 mph in my car.

Not according the FSMs. I'm pretty sure they can be swapped though, as they seem to be the same length.

It would be fairer to say that yours has an L3N71b, than that they all do.

Personally, I suspect that there was a mid-year switch to lockup.

Possibly right.

4/81 production date, so could have been a mid-year change.
