81 diesel sedan for parts in Kingsport TN

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

81 diesel sedan for parts in Kingsport TN

An easy trip for me. He was asking $800. I don't have an 81...

Auction 110142375862
1981 Datsun 810 Maxima with LD 28 2.8 Inline 6 Diesel engine and automatic transmission. I bought this car on ebay a few years ago and have put over 10,000 trouble free miles on it since. The only repair Ive had to do is replace the rear disc brakes with new Bendix rotors and Napa Pads. It has given me great mileage and pleasant service. I'm regretfully selling the car because there is significant undercarriage rust. I drove the car for the last time last week. For some reason, the starter would not operate with the ignition key. I "hotwired" it and it started right up and I drove it about 10 miles to make sure the A/C was still nice and cold, and it is! I decided to repair the starter problem. To make a long story short, I found that the main wire harness has some wires that are badly corroded. I fixed the wire from the ignition switch to the starter relay to find that the car will not run at all now! I am burried in projects, its hot as h_ll here in TN and I'm feeling too lazy to figure this car out. It was a great running driving car up until last week. I am listing this car in parts because: 1. the undercarriage including rear strut towers are badly rusted (with large holes) 2. the wire harness is corroded and the car no longer starts and runs The motor, transmisson, rear end, trim, A/C components interior all power accessories etc, are great. The doors sunroof and roof are rusty, front fenders are good. Has nice alloy wheels. I took the tires off and put them on another car. It now has junk tires on it (not roadworthy) Glass good aside from small star in windshield. I've probably left something out, so be sure to ask questions. This is a great parts car for someone who needs parts for their 810 or Z car LOCATED IN KINGSPORT, TN 37660 LOCAL PICK UP ONLY. SOLD AS IS Tires shown are gone. Now has crappy dry-rotted, wrong-size tires on the same alloy wheels. They hold air, but leak down overnight. I'm not listing this on here again, bid now! This car contains a wealth of very hard to find parts, bid now!

The wiring problem is probably the same broken harness splice that Carimbo and I have experienced, since the symptom is the same.

Yeah,

That is what I thought. I let him know about the site. Hard to do across Ebay messages (no HTML). Also hard to negotiate with crank pirates across Ebay messages.

"... the undercarriage including rear strut towers are badly rusted (with large holes)"

I wonder at what point rear strut tower rust becomes dangerous?

I agree with you and that's a good question. I can believe the car has bad undercarriage rust, but from the looks of it on the outside the car looks like 90's car condition instead of 80's. If it isn't that bad I'd consider to weld it underneath to save the car. And that car really does look a lot better than my car from the outside.
