I read my previous post, and I have no clue what the 2nd paragraph meant, sounds like I was rambling about some kind of powdercoating.
The elbow screws in, so you can unscrew it and seal those threads using rtv or in my case, threadlocker red. I reccomend threadlocker cause it prevents it from moving around and leaking again. To this day its still not leaking.
Rufus, is yours leaking from the underside? where it goes from the block to the manifold?

I have a seep on top of the valve cover; I'll probably get to it this weekend. After doing the valves recently I was surprised to see the top of the VC stained again, but it's clearly from the PVC hose connection.
The valve on the other end of the hose clearly has seepage problems too, but I suspect that will take some fiddling to find out whether it's fixable so it may be a while.
There is an oil stain on the side of the block below the manifold; it looks like it's below the vacuum pump oil connection (I guess that's what that 3/8" metal tube buried up under the manifold at about #2 is.) It's not much of a leak and I don't have that one on the radar yet.
I guess that says it all about which problems get fixed first! <GG>

I just remembered we are talking about a diesel engine here, and crankcase ventilation may be different from the gassers. Realizing this I cracked the diesel supplement on my 83 FSM out, and observed the not very detailed diagram of the PCV system on EF&EC-70. It shows fresh air being sent down into the intake to what appears to be the combustion chamber. Then the dirty blow by gas is sucked out into the intake. To me it sounds like the cycle is completed by clean air entering the combustion chamber and flowing past the rings on the ignition cycle, and that kind of defeats the purpose of the crank ventilation system as a whole (pcv or road draft).
I think I need to find a diesel maxima to play with
According to the FSM there is no tube under the intake for the PCV, But the egr tube runs from the exhaust manifold to the intake right around the #2

I think it may be for the vac pump oil. Haven't tried to look it up yet - it doesn't seem to be a real problem yet and it looks hard to reach under the manifold.According to the FSM there is no tube under the intake for the PCV, But the egr tube runs from the exhaust manifold to the intake right around the #2

wonder if you ever figured it out?
As a few replies mentioned the breather unscrews from the valve cover. It is the same as a gasser breather. So if yours is damaged you can just pull one from another Lseries engine.
I would probably not use red threadlocker or RTV on this surface. Look into Yamaseal. Its a sealer used on Yamaha motorcycles. Im not familiar with other brands but everyone makes stuff like it. Its basically the same as what Nissan used to seal the breather and baffles under the valve cover. Its made to hold up to the acids and petroleum in the crank case.
Sounds like overkill to find such a product but it works correctly guarantied with no future problems of the breather coming loose or leaking for hopefully another 25 years. Yamaha used that seal to seal their motorcycle crank cases without a gasket.

Just remembered!!!
INFINITI and Nissan still use that sealer! They use it to seal the timing covers and such on their newer engines. i had to use it on my VH45DE in my Q45 to seal the front chain cover and valve cover. They dont have a gasket in those places. So you should be able to get the stuff they use from a Dealer in your area.

I think in my case it's a hose problem - the nipple is tight. I've been on 10 hour days 7 days/wk the last 2 weeks and my auto enthusiasm doesn't hold up well to that abuse... <g> I had to "shop it" to get the external hydraulic line fixed on the trans - just no time. Sometime the next week or so it gets a new hose.
