DHRA! Alright!
No, sorry. I'm looking to fit a stock tach. It's not too hard, I just need one thing to make it work and then I can share it with everyone!

I like the 5k autometer. The "inductive probe straps to the alternator" solution is easy and the meter itself is adjusable to alternator RPM.
If I had to choose between the tach vs. a pyro .... I'd take the pyro. I can hear rpm but, I can't feel exhaust heat.

hello all, been a while since i posted anything, been busy on alot of different things. my 84 sd25 has a removable cover where the revolution sensor goes. was going to show a pic but wasn't sure about the different procedure to do it. it would be nice to do but the price is far from my limits. i have checked in the past on a tach from nissan dealer and was told it was $275. that wasn't including the revolution sensor. anyways phillip i hope all is well your way and good wishes to all.

5000 RPM DIESEL TACH
AUTO METER 2888

Est $125 (USD). You might better ask AutoMeter about this tachometer being electronic or mechanic.

Well done! I was wondering if anyone was actually going to buy one of those. I have heard mostly positive reports on other sites. Is the slowish refresh annoying?

I'm certain that I would not want to use the rocker bolt as a ground point.
The gauge looks quite good in the clock location

No,not at all !! I find the refresh rate perfect.

Worked so far... I guess it can be inconvenient if the valve cover is removed frequently. I will probably find an other spot for the ground next time I have to remove the cover.

I know what you mean... I just started having to wear reading glasses. The numbers are actually bigger than they seem. They are certainly bigger than the Km/h numbers on the speedometer gauge. The only disadvantage I found with this installation is that one cannot see the tach at night.
When the engine is not running the tiny tach shows total service time on the engine (in hours and minutes). Could be used as an indicator when to change oil.

Driving at 60mph in 5th gear, what is the RPM?
And at 38 mph in 3rd gear, what is the RPM?

Knucklehead wrote:In all practicality it doesn't make any difference because, 1.) the tach, which does have a different part number than the Z tach, is $217 (the gas one is $229). Moot, because it is not available anywhere, at all. 2.) The sensor (pn 25068) is about $60. Rush to your dealer now, because there is
one somewhere in the US. 3.) I can't imagine finding a 720 w/ SD25 in a junkyard, so I'm back where I started.
For motorheads, I did get a breakdown of where the sensor fit. Looks like it reads the cam gear, which I suppose has an inset on it. If anyone has one of these trucks, you have a jewel of high interest!

The full part No. for the revolution sensor is

And for the 1981-82 dash console? No rush ... just curious for now.
