I tell ya what I feel the same exact way. Jeez, both those cars don't even look bad and I know they'll run great. The Isuzu 4FB1 diesel engine in those cars is about as bombproof as you can get for back in the 80's. Really makes a VW diesel look "light duty."

I agree, Washington seems to be a popular place for finding diesel vehicles. On the other hand, there are almost no diesel vehicles in the state of Iowa. I've had to go out-of-state for most everything I've bought over the years except for the Maxi wagon and the Jetta TDI.
The Isuzu motor is very stout, but it was not promoted enough by Chevy to sell a lot of them, especially in the mid-west. Kind of pulled the same tactic back then with the Chevette diesel they're pulling now with the Aveo, which you rarely see talked about at all.
father inlaw obtianed from an old uncle an australian built GM-Holden/Isuzu gemini with the 4FB1,it came with a new crate engine.at 23 yrs old we replaced the water pump as it leaked sometimes.
at work i recently refitted a/c to a car that had just had the original engine swaped back as the 2 liter turbo japanese version is hard to get parts for.

Escort, Lynx, Tempo and Topaz were all available with the Mazda 2.0L diesel engine. Almost bought a Tempo wagon once with this engine but the owner wanted too much and the glowplug system was not working well.
selling my 1981 Isuzu I-mark, I have upgraded to a diesel pickup and no longer need both vehicles. the Isuzu is a 1981 2 door LS Coupe model and has the 1.8L diesel with 5sp transmission, 155,000 miles, runs and drives great. new parts include battery, alternator, starter, complete new brakes front and rear. I have a cd player (not installed yet) and reciepts for parts. body is straight but does have some rust, glass is good, interior is good front seats have covers on them due to wear. the fuel mileage is 39-43 mpg and goes down the freeway great. asking 1200.00 OBO. (well cheap for the Seattle area diesel market)
1 83 Chevy chevette 4-door auto & 1 84 2-door manual parts car. The 83 needs brake work and the 84 has a good powertrain but is not drivable.(body damage)
$300 OBO

THIS IS A ONE OWNER CAR.
Look all you want.....if your looking for 35-40 mpg in a good little car...this is what you want. My dad asked that I list this for him (really). it has 225,000 miles...that shouldn't scare you if your looking for a diesel. It will go another 100,000 EASY.
Keep looking if you want to drop a ton of money to go to work and get home Every day....if your interested...I (we) will tell you everything we know about the car..good and bad. IT runs GREAT.
Smokes when you first start it if you don't leave the block warmer on...then it runs great. I know because my car left me stranded once and I borrowed their car.
It has a 5 speed manual transmission... shifts fine...but has popped out of second (I think) once or twice in a six month time. Like I said...we'll tell you all we know...just get it out of their garage.
The picture is the bad side....notice the pin stripe is missing...mom ran into a post and Chev replaced the whole door...geez they never did get the pin stripe on that they paid for.
Price is Firm, but you know how that is...
by the way...my folks don't smoke...and I quite years ago..
