Which engine oil do you use...?

Cmd.Ron, The topic here is and was engine oil, and the removal of ZDDP from new oils to meet new EPA/ new engine and Catalyst converter requirements at the expense of flat tappet, and older engine design requirements that were built around the use of ZDDP (the special organic compound that had zinc phoshate in the molecule that kept our engines from self destructing.

But to answer your question (since I got aff track 4 years ago with that post of mine you quoted, LOL), about gear lubes for the manual transmissions, GL-1 to GL-3 is OK, but impossible to find anymore. GL-4 or GL-5 has sulfur that EATS brass!!!!!!

MT-90 by Redline is the only thing I use in gear boxes that have brass (yellow metal) synchros in them!!!!! I order it online. I had rebuilt my 5 speed, and 3 months later was having trouble shifting. I had the wrong gear oil in it!!!! I got to it in time, I was lucky, put in the MT-90, and it started shifting perfectly again. That was 4 years ago.

It works like a champ!!!!

But back to the oil topic!!!!!!!

Hi, Mike!

I'm still using the 13W30 full synthetic oil and my engine is running as good as ever with about 250,000 kilometers on it now. Uses about a liter of oil per 2000KM. Negligible blowby. Still getting about 40 - 43 MPG.

Still using 15/40 Petro but have recently come into possesion of 60+ liters of Delo 400 15/40 that my dad had in his shed for the past few years. 10+ I think. Will get the API info off it. He also gave me a 20 liter pail of Petro Can 15/40 of the same vintage.
I did however use Castrol Syntec 5/40 for the winter. Made a huge difference in "startability" ( if thats even a word ) Will try the Rotella 5/40 this winter as Castrol is dropping the "C" ratings from this product.

EDIT: API rating on the Delo is : CD,CE,CF no gasoline (S) ratings at all.

\Edit Edit: Upon further examination of the 5+ cases of oil it appears that they are of different "vintages" so to speak.
I have some Delo 400 with API ratings of CD, CDII, CE, CF-4/SG
So ???????
