You are looking at a very nice original 1982 Datsun Diesel King Cab pick up. I bought the truck in May, 2000, from a friend who bought it at an estate auction from the original owner just a few months prior with only 98000 original miles at the time. The truck was originally sold at a local dealer here in Missouri and has spent its entire life in Missouri , therefore; rust and abnormal wear and tear are not significant issues. The truck is set up as follows:
- Original SD22 4 Cylinder diesel motor
- 5 Speed Overdrive Manual Transmission (Professionally Rebuilt)
- AM/FM Cassette Radio
- Good Spare Tire With Original Jack And Manual
The truck starts, runs, and drives good. It has clear title and is currently tagged. The motor has low compression making cold weather starts difficult and smokes considerably upon start up but then clears up almost entirely once warm. The motor still produces good power and pulls 70 mph in 5th gear with no problems and uses very little oil (about 1 quart every 3000 mile). It will still get you about 30 mpg on the highway. Once running the transmission shifts smoothly (Transmission was completely rebuilt by a local shop at 129000 miles), brakes, lights, heater, defrost all work as they should. I have used the truck daily up until last year when I upgraded. It has been serviced at regular intervals and is pretty much ready to go with good tires, block heater, and battery. The truck is still very dependable apart from the starting issues keeping in mind that the compression will be a factor at some point in time. Often people will ask if a vehicle is able to drive a certain distance and I know that is sometimes difficult to answer, I would say that I would trust this truck to cover most distances but please keep I cannot guarantee that along with the fact it is a somewhat rare truck and should you break down enroute you may find out the hard way that many parts are not your standard items in any parts store. That is why I drive it locally and keep extra parts on hand like filters.
Cosmetics are very good for this year truck. The original paint and decals are in decent shape and holding up nicely for the most part. There are no major dings or dents. Minor rust issues seem to be surficial only limited to the exposed body areas with none evident on the frame, cab corners, or floor. The interior is very nice as well, original vinyl seats are in great shape (there is a minor tear on the drivers seat on the bottom front left corner) as are the door panels. Original floor mats are in great shape as well. Original dash is in very good condition. Glass is good with a few minor chips in windshield, it has a rear sliding window which is nice since the truck did not come with AC. Compared to the similar trucks that just sold recently I would say that the body and interior are vastly superior on this truck with the biggest shortcoming being the low compression, please don't ask what the compression numbers are at this point because I simply do not know nor have the time or capabilities to find out.
I will be out most of the week during the auction so if you have questions you can try reaching me on my cell at 417-770-2265. Thanks for looking and have fun bidding, I do not think anyone would be disappointed but if you win and get here and feel the truck is not what I said it is you can have out of the deal on the spot with no negative feedback.
