529 out of 1 tank on my 5speed in tow
I am currently driving cross country in my 82 Maxima diesel with 336,000 miles towing a car dolly trunk and back seat full. I just achieved 529 miles out of 14.1 gallons of fuel driving between 55mph and 67mph.
On my way to bremerton Washinton to pick up two Maxi diesels.
im planning on towing one back to Miami and driving the other back.
I just put in the last three months over 10,000 miles. most of them in tow.
I pulled a radmaster wagon from Wv and a Nissan sentra diesel from Birmingham Al. in the past two weeks and im currently on the road.

Do you think im kidding? I have done this twice.
Maybee its off by 20 miles because of the performace low profiles but its still 500....
Unrestricted intake with high flow filter and fuel saving devices
Two magnets on the fuel lines???
unrestricted straight mandrel bent exhaust system 2.5 inches.
Super clean intake no restrictions.
Synthectic oil 5w40 delvavc turbo diesel
5speed manual
37.3 mpg
335,000 miles

Big claims gotta expect some pokes and whistles. <g>
"Making straight the way" for air-in and air-out does help from what I've read; good to hear something nice and basic has real results on the Max.
But I'd definitely do a calculation on those tires. Find out the "rolling radius" on the stock tires and compare it with same on your setup. You need the rolling radius, not the tire-size specs because of the flat spot where the tire sits on the road. I have large rear tires and it makes a 10% or more difference in my odometer readings. The actual calculations indicate 13% but tests against known distances read more like 10%. Bicycle clubs often have certain routes mapped out with exact mileage, or if you have a GPS and a _straight_ road for a couple miles you could make your own check.
Sounds like a huge trip. I drive from SF to Chicago and back once or twice a year and it can be a trial sometimes. Don't grind yourself down to fall asleep, though.
Cheers, Rufus
