As already stated, all about time and place, supply and demand. In countries and regions where parts are an issue, availability of such back-up is also an issue the buyer needs to consider.
I have found that the 'spacer plate', which we call adapter plates to be of more value than the engine. I have seen these sell for as much as NZD600 here in New Zealand for a LD28 to Land Rover five speed box. I have seen people buy the engine with one fitted just for the plate.
LD28s here in NZ are pretty common and amongst the multitude of engine choices out there for a repower, they don't have a huge following anymore. I can pick up a good runner for as little as NZD100. Average price for an average engine is about NZD400 but I still see people trying to get NZD700-800 for them. Someone recently advertised one for NZD1200 with a turbo fitted from a Land Rover 110. Time and place etc.
Hope this helps. Oh, and welcome to the forum. Some pictures of your Land Rovers would be welcome as well

Good roads lead to bad fishing.
