Look at the post I just put up of my car.
Those 2nd gen seats are $ in the bank. I paid like 30-40 bucks for mine. I love those seats!

Coersion as in Dremelling the holes oval, or something else?83_maxima wrote:Salvy, The 2nd gen seats will bolt up to the 1st gen rails with only a little bit of coersion required.

More or less. I was able to just force the bolts into the holes and once they were started, everything straightened up and bolted right together.asavage wrote:Coersion as in Dremelling the holes oval, or something else?83_maxima wrote:Salvy, The 2nd gen seats will bolt up to the 1st gen rails with only a little bit of coersion required.
Dremeling the holes more oval would probably be the preferred (and more professional) approach.

Side loading on seat tracks can make the seats hard to adjust fore/aft (BTDT). That's why I asked. I love my Dremel, don't know how I got along without it for so many years!

I haven't had any issues, nor have any passengers. So I assume that everything is A-OK.

I would be inclined to say no. The dimensions of the 2 cars are quite different. Trying to strongarm the backseat in would probably be one hell of a pain in the ass!fud2468 wrote:I'm still a wannabe here, (hopefully will finally see the car next week) but am curious--will the Gen 2 back seats also work in a Gen 1?

Yes, the gen 1 seats are not great, and for me they don't go back far enough either. If one could find a similar upholstery on the newer seats it would be a lot better.83_maxima wrote:Those 2nd gen seats are $ in the bank. I paid like 30-40 bucks for mine. I love those seats!
I'm used to my Golf D which has Jetta GLI front buckets that have lots of travel and a fore / aft height adjustment feature that actually works.

Yesterday we finished up the work on the car and I test drove it a few times down my road. Sounds great and everything is working good with no signs of any problems. Glad to have it back after 2-3 months of no transportation. Today I drove it 100 miles already and I'm still planning to go out to do other stuff. After about 600 miles we are going to retorque the head bolts and adjust the valves for it to be good for hopefully many miles to come. I appreciate everybody's help, knowledge, and experience during our work period on the car. This site is nothing but sweet!

You need to retain your original seat rails, so your adjustments, etc. are the same as before, the seats are much firmer, more comfortable for long periods and don't have those bald spots that the old velour ones develop.kassim503 wrote:Does the 2nd gen seats move back farther than the 1st gen ones? Because if they do ill grab a set.
