Looking for turbo info

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Looking for turbo info

#1

Post by nissanclay »

New to the forum, have had my sd22 powered '82 720 since fall 2008 and just got the truck trail ready back in May. The truck is running 37" tires, 5.13 gearing in the axles and is gutless on the hills here in Colorado.

I really want to put a turbo on the truck so I can actually drive it on the road. Anyone have info on installing on on the engine? I have a buddy that has a turbo and top mount intercooler that he is willing to let go of for cheap but I don't want to make the investment without knowing that I can use them and if its going to cost a bunch of money in other parts.

Any info would help

Not the the expert here, but I think theres stuff in the threads from a couple years ago. Might try SEARCH.

If you put your location in your "profile", it gives a lot more perspective on your vehicle needs.

Success is limited putting turbos on these engines. They are IDI which doesn't readily lend itself to boost. That being said, there are some projects depicted on site.

i run IDI vw diesels, and turbo the crap out of them, my current ride has a VNT turbo, and will sustain 22psi boost.. still stock head gasket and bolts even..

what do i need to watch for when adding boost to a SD engine? i have a K24 turbo, and a Eaton M90 s/c laying around..

kinda thinking the supercharger would be the way to go on an SD, since everything ive read says to run way WAY low boost..

what kinda fuel pump mods do you have to do? some sort of 1 way check valve in the vacuum signal line to the fuel pump? how much can you turn up the fueling on these fuel pumps?
