Hey diesel fans, I've got a Nissan Laurel 85 with the LD28 but the standard tachometer has stopped working, has been out for a while now. When I first bought the beast it wouldn't work until the engine warmed up. So maybe after 15-20 mins the tacho needle would start moving. Anyway now it's dead.
So I'm wondering if anyone relates to this? I see some threads on rigging a new tachometer or replacing the EGR sensor.
But where would a good place be to start troubleshooting? How can I test if my EGR controller is still working? Or where it even is? I'll have a look under where I pull the bonnet (hood) lever. If that's working then I could test the EGR sensor two cables with a multimeter? I want to get my rpms back badly and would prefer the OEM tacho.
Cheers!

Generally with electrical stuff you start with the wiring, see what's come loose, broken. Then with voltages; make sure the ground for your multi meter is securely attached to the frame, battery neg, something...
