Datsun/Nissan PUs have used six-lug wheels since the 50's.

They didn't get factory front disc brakes until 1978 though.

That took me by surprise, I thought nissan stuck to 4 and 5 lugs on their cars.

But 1978 is pretty good for disc brakes, other cars had drums all around until up to the 80's.

Did they ever build any 8 lugs on their cars?

The UD trucks I've worked on (ie light commercial trucks) are still six-bolt, though the bolts are a LOT larger, of course. Nissan makes real, big trucks too, but we don't get a lot of them over here.
