Hi,
Every datsun diesel maintenence book I've seen advises adding a few drops of 'injector pump diaphragm oil' to the injectors. In my shop manual it says this would be 'cod liver oil' or a 'nissan equivalent' (or something like that).
My questions are
a) Some people say they have never done this for their vehicles - how key is it?
b) Is there something I can use besides cod liver oil, because it costs about $16 for a small bottle.
Thanks!
Clayton

Re: Cod liver oil vs Injector Pump Diaphragm oil?
FSM calls out for "Nissan OL36V1" or ... cod liver oil.claybodie wrote:Hi,

PAY the $16 for Nissan's "diaphragm oil" because regular ol cod liver does nasty ... I mean NASTY, evil, ugly things when used on the diaphragm. Did I mention cod oil turns to wax around 32 degrees?
See: Pneumatic Governor Diaphragm (Evils of Cod Oil)
"EcoMike" offers a thoughtful alternative preservative.
Keeping this leather diaphragm pliable is key to crisp throttle response.

I read the other posts on this topic - thanks for all the useful information.
You wrote a lot about replacing the diaphragm, but what about dropping in the 2-3 ml nissan oil for maintenance?
That seems like a good idea, considering the problems mentioned with cracked diaphragms...
So where can I buy Nissan injector pump diaphram oil?

(Phil says) You didn't see the word "Disregard" in this post??claybodie wrote:You wrote a lot about replacing the diaphragm, but what about dropping in the 2-3 ml nissan oil for maintenance?
What we need is a Nissan parts catalogue for the 720 PUs. Then we could run the part number for it through NismoParts.com and determine price & availability. I have the Gen1 Maxima Parts Catalogue, but I've never seen one come available for the PU.So where can I buy Nissan injector pump diaphram oil?
Hmmm. See a new post in the Peddle forum.

Cleaning one of my spare SD22 IPs, I see this tidbit:
"Supply diaphragm oil some drops . . . 6000 mile"
"Supply diaphragm oil some drops . . . 6000 mile"
