Threaded Holes for Mirrors?

#1

Post by Lonnie »

About half way down on the outside of the door there are two threaded approx 1/4"holes about 2 1/2"apart. What are these for? The only thing I could come up with is possibly for mounting a mirror? Yep, both doors.

For clarification, these holes are right below the mirror about half way down the door & appear to come from the factory that way...

Thanks,
Lonnie

Nissan fitted a small automotive mirror which uses two holes just under the window. However, dealers and aftermarket offered two U-Haul style mirrors that used a support frame. These mirrors have about 3 times the area of the standard passenger car part and sticks out further.

Thanks!
After having a closer look & spending some time at the dealer I'm begining to think that was the case. Looks like it was an after market mirror...

The lower attachment on the blue pickup is just about where the holes are on mine.

I just haven't been able to find a mirror that lines up with the holes...

The '82 I just parted ("Bellingham Truck") had the lower picture style of mirrors on it. I still have both the mirrors and the doors. The mirrors are in good shape (which is why I kept them). When I unscrewed them from the doors, something fell off inside each door. I'm imagining a reinforcement plate, to prevent the door from cracking.

On my doors that piece is still attached to the inside of the door...

I may just get some chrome screws & use them to fill the holes.

Ok so I have what has been explained to me as the "Euro Style" mirrors on my truck. They are rediculously small so I opted to swap them out to the "West coast style" mirrors. Now when I installed the passanger side I noticed

A: There was no bottom mounting holes. Not really a problem thats why god invented the drill.

B: the bottom mounting bracket has a 3/4" gap between the door and the mount. If I push it closed, it tweaks the metal on the door at the top mount alittle.

Is this normal?

The door is fine. Accessories that are advertised to fit everything NEVER EVER fit what you install them on without bending those "universal" brackets.

Bend or shim as necessary. Never build in stress.

I can't figure why they're not just bolt-on -- they came off the "Bellingham Truck", which was . . . uh, oh. The truck was 1982, but doors were not original to the truck (they were blue, truck was white).

I wonder if the doors are much later. The door panels are certainly 1982 style, and they match the blue of the doors. I assumed that the doors are 1981 or 1982, but I could be wrong.

If you can't or don't want to make them fit, I'll send you money back. Just let me know.

Hey don't worry about it. I got the mirrors to work. I was more concerned with the metal deflection than anything else. The mirrors are awsome (especially the 3" fish eyes). I have no visability problems now.
