I just got my sd22 installed in a mazda b2000 truck it used to run fine but when I got it fired up its not.... there is exhaust coming out of the #1 intake valve pulled the head and the valves look fine, I have never seen this problem before. any body have an answer for me?
Did you check the valve timing before you pulled the head? Broken valve spring? Tight valves? Just throwing out some ideas, you've probably covered already. Let us know how it turns out.

timing cant be off because nothing changed. valve looks good, closes all the way. valve springs are in good shape. I cant figure it out or find any replacement parts. any one have a spare head laying around?
Actually remove the valves from that cylinder and have a look.
The valve may looked closed but may not be seated correctly.
The seat may be damaged or there may be something stuck under it and prevent it from closing completely.

Problem with being retired is that you never get a day off.

well some one had to have taken the rocker assembly off at some point while it was sitting the shop because 2 push rods were not seated in the lifters. got them in correctly and it runs smooth again!
the rocker assembly must have been taken off at some point because two push rods were not moving. they were not in the lifter so they were just holding the valve open a hair. but its running smooth once again!
