My guy is going to check if he can still get the Victor set (special order). I would assume that there is some other outlet for the Victor set.
If your guy wants the sale and can run this down, he's got my money.

I took another pass at this and realized that the part number I had used was superseded. The new number is 14033-V0710. I'll give it another go at some point and see if it is available. You'd think Nismoparts.com would have caught my mistake. Even if they are using FAST, they should be better with it than I am.

The number I mentioned above isn't available either. I guess it will have to be aftermarket, but that isn't looking very promising so far either.

I finally obtained one of the Felpro "head set without head gasket" sets. It came from these folks. It looked to be old stock, but I'm happy to have it.

Since the head set order went well, I decided to order another one and the conversion set mentioned above. This time they cancelled the order and refunded my money. I hope this is a temporary situation. I really don't want want to try my hand at cutting custom gaskets. Yuck.

I went to one of my local Napa stores and tried to order a gasket set for an LD28 - any gasket set for an LD28. Their computer wouldn't let them order it because the manufacturer had none available. I asked the guy on the counter if that didn't form a vicious circle. No orders, none produced, none produced, no orders. Blank stare and a "I don't give a rat's posterior" attitude was what I got for trying to spend money there.

Not knowing what else to do, I have just started ordering gasket sets and head gaskets from anyplace I can find that will accept the order. My hope is that the inquiries will trigger some gasket production. So far, the only fruit this has produced is 1 of the Felpro head sets without head gasket. I have made contact with a company in England. They have indicated by email that they have head gaskets and gasket sets in stock in their brand. I am trying to find out the specifics as to head gasket thickness and will post the results here when I have them. As a rough estimate, it looks like a head gasket and head gasket set with postage will run about $200.

What's wrong with the Nissan OEM parts?

The price difference is most times neglegable, unless the part is NLA, which, in my experience there are not that many (until the recent timing belt tensioner issue).

I have bought some gaskets from Nissan, but the "plenum" gasket between the two halves of the intake is NLA or NCA (Not Currently Available). There were three or four other gaskets I couldn't get from Nissan either when last I tried. I haven't really tried for a head gasket from Nissan yet, but I thought someone indicated recently that there was only one left in the U.S. Maybe I dreamed that part because I can't find it now.

I realize this is not a particularly attractive option in some ways, but it might look better in time if the current gasket situation proves to be more than temporary.

From my email conversation with BG automotive UK...

Good morning Mr B.,

We used to offer 3 head gaskets with different thickness but we now only have the one type left.

The thickness of the gasket I quoted you for is 1.30mm

If you proceed to order I will put a CD catalogue in you’re your order.

Kind regards – Salutations – Mit freundlichen Grűsen

Peter Seabourne

Dear Mr Seabourne,

Thank you for your response. I did have at least one additional question.

Do you offer more than one thickness of head gasket? Nissan and Felpro gaskets for this engine are offered in different thickness to accommodate different amounts of piston protrusion from the deck. If you only offer one thickness, could you specify that thickness?

At present, gaskets for this engine are very hard to obtain in the states, I am in contact with several people who will be interested to know what you have to offer. Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Matt B.

Dear sir or madam,

Does your company offer a gasket set for the Nissan LD 28? Do you sell to buyers in the United States?

Thanks,

A couple years ago when looking to rebuild a Palmer gas boat engine, I found some firms that fabricate custom head gaskets to order. Don't recall the price, maybe $100? They may need an original or a full size tracing, plus some thickness and materials info. They have quite a number of (previously fabricated) gasket layouts, so they only need the original if you're the first guy to order that gasket; also, gaskets where they have the layout cost less, IIRC.

Don't know if a diesel application would be a problem. The one that I considered was in LA; sorry, I'm out of town at the moment and don't have any records available. You probably want to search the net anyway, see what's out there now.

Hey guys, I ought to know what gaskets are available brand new since I had to change out a head gasket with cylinder head on my 82 Maxima late last spring in 2006. For the head gasket you can buy one right from AutoZone (not that it's the best auto parts store) and it will be a Fel-Pro head gasket. They do sell them in at least two different thicknesses and quite possibly three, but I don't remember. The intake and exhaust manifold gasket I was also able to get from my local Carquest auto parts store. Also got the three bolt exhaust flange gasket from there and I'll have to look for the part #'s if anyone is in need of them. I do believe they were Victor gaskets too. Now a head gasket set may be hard to find, but the head gasket shouldn't be an issue if anyone is having a hard time getting one.
