These are the different gears

But you can see the shafts are the same. When you take them apart you take the gasser starter appart from the front and this shaft will fall out. You have to split the case on the diesel starter and then the shaft will come out.

but there is the difference.

Silly question, but I have to ask. Did you have oil pressure when you fired her up? Once I was told by an old diesel mechanic: do not touch any part of the crankshaft unless you're going to rebuild the engine.

At first i thought i had no pressure but i changed the sending unit and it works now the guage works. Im hoping to get the engine torn down soon. Its killing me not knowing what i should be doing next.

Is there some reason you can't use the L28 oil pan and pick up tube? I would also assume you might can use a dry sump setup.
