LD20TII in Nissan Largo Glowplug Light Flashing

#1

Post by John »

I have a Nissan Largo with LD20TII: difficult cold starting and glow plug light flashes for some time after starting. Any ideas on what the problem may be would be appreciated. Thanks.

John, most of us are in the US and have never seen the LD20TII except in pictures, and I have no tech literature on it at all. Can I assume that you are in AU or NZ? It will be helpful if you update your Profile (click on "Profile" at the top of any page here) an add your geographic location, and add "Largo LD20TII" to your Signature, so folks can see where and what you have.

Member davehoos in AU has worked with the LD20 series and may have tips for you; perhaps he'll pipe up.

1992 largo.
is this a C23[serena] or the common C22[nissan nomad].largo is a japanese name that is used also on some spanish made models.

the newer diesel are controled by a [ECU] computor.the largo would be a jap imort so it will have egr control etc.im guessing if these systems failed that the light may flash.there is nothing in the LD20IIT manual[SM4E-LD20GO]sold in australia for general areas and europe.nissan patrol[rd28 of the same age] the light will stay on if there is a problem with -water temp-glow plugs-relay-rpm sencor-
it may be an after glow system indicator-i havnt seen this on any other nissans as they are not itended to run in cold climate[australia].

australian c22[vanette] LD20II is very basic.the light wont flash-just a timer to tell you to crank.

do some basics-see if you have voltage at the glow pugs, the light turns off seconds before the glow plug relay turns off.

australian diesel is crap compared to asian diesel.if the battery is average it will be hard to start.you may need to adjust the injector pump.advance timing etc.i have had to add Kero or petrol to get these to start in parramatta winter.but i wouldnt do this if you driving some distance at high speeds..i dont know what damage you may do-im a mechanic so i know how much i can get away with.

technically sydney is moderate temperature-like southern california.if your in the west it much colder.some say you need to use import[singapore diesel from woolies] i would check with a supplier if they have japanese quality diesel.this is often sold in canberra.

a new engine has no problems.in different regions of the world starter motor crank at different speeds, ther are 5 listed for LD20's in C22.

im in newcastle-i travel to sydney rarely.im off the NZ on 20TH for a week.
