Please forgive me if i am not in the right forum? I need some HELP!! I'm having a starter problem and i believe the source centers around the starter solnoid coil. I have jumpered the BR and the WB wires @ the ignition Sw. and my volt meter is reading approx. 9v on the BR wire down at the (5/16 male spaded terminal) located on the starter solnoid. Using a bat. jumper cable, I have jumpered the bat. terminals located on the solnoid coil and the starter motor turns very well. Am i annalyzing this correctly? Where is the best supply for a new solnoid coil? Is this part difficult to R&R? Can I remove and repair the old one? I'v got a lot of ???'s . Sorry this the 1st prob. i'v had w/the truck I really like the truck and will continue to drive it as long as it will let me.

Re: 1982, Starter Solenoid Problem????
Welcome, beard.
Please take a minute to edit your Profile (click on "Profile" at the top of any page) and add your geographic location; this will save a lot of Qs later, believe me.
Please read this thread for more solenoid info. There is an aftermarket part No. for a solenoid there, but only for one style of Hitachi starter, and there are at least three different Hitachi starters that were offered on your engine. The solenoids are not interchangeable between them. It is not difficult to replace the solenoid but the starter must be removed from the engine, and the top starter bolt can be difficult to remove, no way around that.
Other good Hitachi starter solenoid info is in this thread. Different Hitachi starter, same problem, good pics.

The Hitachi starters have a weak solenoid -- that is, the solenoid dies before the motor!beard wrote:I have jumpered the BR and the WB wires @ the ignition Sw. and my volt meter is reading approx. 9v on the BR wire down at the (5/16 male spaded terminal) located on the starter solnoid.
