LD28 newb questions and headgasket question
Hello, new to the board. I just bought a used LD28 from a friend who is a Land Rover mechanic. Scored it with the adapter and all. I know the engine and it runs. He recommended I put new rings and have the head checked before installing it in my rig. I found the rings on ebay so I bought them as I know parts are hard to come by, but after searching this sight I see headgaskets are NLA. I see the recommendation of getting one made, but I also found this company which sells metal ones. The price is painful but I only want to do this once, just wondered if anyone has any history on these guys and if this is a viable option.
Anything else I should plan on addressing. I did also pick up an IP belt and was thinking about doing the timing chain, but not sure if that is necessary or not. Are they still available? Thanks Gordon.

Thanks for the link - haven't seen it before. Sorry, I don't know those guys. You might try doing a search on their name. I found though that when I follow a bitch thread from start to finish it's sometimes the poster that ends up looking like a turkey - to me anyway. Read carefully.

JasperG where are you? The head gaskets are available here in the U.K. and in three different thickness, depending if the block/head has been skimmed.

Thats great. I never got a final reply from group 5. Im thinking I need to pull the head and figure out what thickness it is now, then get the head checked out and if it needs skimming figure out what thickness to run in headgasket. Thanks for the help in locating the gasket. I have contacted them to see if they are still available. Thanks Gordon.

I prefer as good as OEM quality. The brand I use is a German made Victor Reinz. Received the set yesterday (South Africa) at about $50 part no: 61-52500-30 for head gasket and $200 pno: 01-52125-01 for all the other gaskets for rebuilt. Heard of too many aftermarket head gasket failures. Unless you are satisfied with the brand of the one you bought, visit http://www.victorreinz.com and try and locate an importer close to you or import direct.
