Does anboyd know if the injectors on the l24e would be compatable with the ones run on the l28e?

YES.
This is what I did: pulled 6 "pocket-sized" injectors off of a 280zx in the junkyard - look for ones that show no signs of leaking - and sent them off to be cleaned and flow-tested.
$90 got me 6 (more or less) brand new injectors and you can really tell a difference. Best $90 I ever spent.

Injectors are a buck-and-a-half at these U-Pull-It type JYs, so "pocketing" them isn't worth the bad karma, IMO.
If you're gonna steal, make it worth the time! That's my motto.
(My other is, "I'm planning on living forever. So far, so good.")
I did forget to declare the three GPs I'd put in my coat pocket last trip . . . but I figure, since they charged me for four "injectors" on the SD22's IP I bought (pointing to the fuel delivery valves on the inline IP), I paid for them, all right.
Four "injectors" = three GPs . . . more or less.
I also told them that for $2 yard entry fee (it went up from $1 on 01-Apr), they could spring for some gravel in the yard. Got a laugh -- she said, "hey, we paved the parking lot," which is true: it's very nice pavement, too. So at least we don't track crap into the car on the way out.

Alot of JY's in my area dont let you into the yard anymore, in fact there is only one jy that would let you pull the part for 100 miles.
I guess too many people where trying to hide alternators under their coat or people been too lazy to pull the parts themselves.

I don't know about used injectors . . .
A story about injector cleaning:
Where I worked, we had a Sun injection system cleaning machine, one of those plastic tanks on wheels with dials and hoses and five drawers of adapters, and a manual. I didn't think about it a lot, I'd had the opinion that injection system cleaning was a "snake-oil" service, so I pretty much ignored it, and it didn't get used much.
Then one time I had an Aerostar in that just would not idle right. It ran out OK, but the idle was crappy. Sensor checks looked good, no codes, no vac. leaks, all new ignition parts and the 'scope looked pretty clean. Boss suggests I run an injection system cleaning on it -- I scoff, but I figure, what do I have to lose? I read up on it, find the right adapters, pour in the Secret Sauce that Sun sells for this service, fire it up.
This system replaces the fuel pump in the injection system. You loop-back the fuel feed from the fuel pump back to the tank, and this Sun unit becomes the fuel pump and tank for the duration of the cleaning, so it feeds the concentrate cleaner to the fuel rail, through the pressure regulator, and injectors.
So I fire up the Aero, let it idle, fire up the Sun and switch over to it.
Within five minutes, the idle was perfect. The difference was night & day! The cleaning takes 20-30 minutes to use up the full dose of cleaner. Afterward, I drove the van around (on its own fuel system now, regular gasoline) and it had noticeably better acceleration, but the big difference was the idle quality.
So, naturally I had to try it on my own grey Aero. It idles fine and runs fine too, but again, nothing to lose.
I have the digital dash in this thing, and the Trip Computer that gives avg fuel economy and instant fuel economy. After the cleaning, my fuel mileage shot up 1.5 MPG instantly, I mean overnight. It didn't stay that high (it has dropped the same amount over the last year) but there was a difference. Three of the injectors have 75k on them from new, the other three pre-date my ownership of it (so, over 75k miles).
That's my fuel injection system cleaning story, and I'm stickin' to it.

It's funny how JYs vary around the country. I am a fan of JYs, I like spending time in them, and I miss having good ones near where I live, which is why I travel two hours to get to better ones.kassim503 wrote:Alot of JY's in my area dont let you into the yard anymore, in fact there is only one jy that would let you pull the part for 100 miles.
I guess too many people where trying to hide alternators under their coat or people been too lazy to pull the parts themselves.
The cheap JYs up here move a lot of stock, fast, and a lot of parts do walk out in folks' coats and such, but the overall volume seems to be high enough to allow that level of pilferage I guess. The U-Pull-It model only works for older vehicles, because do-it-yourselfers tend to break a lot of the stock.
Other areas, like yours, don't have the U-Pull-It kind of operation. They might let you into the yard, some things they'll let you pull, but engines, trans, windshields, they insist on pulling themselves. Parts are priced higher, volume of sales is lower, and stock doesn't turn over as often. This kind of operation seems to be dying out around here.
The U-Pull-It chain in Portland, Ore. used to be a class act. Four JYs in a chain, spaced around the city (Foster Rd, Sherwood/Tualitin, Boring/Damascus, Vancouver-Wash.) and a fifth 50 miles south, south of Salem. The prices posted on a bulletin board in the lobby. Nicely graded & drained yards, almost never a puddle worth noting. Decent area where you can clean your hands, loaner wheelbarrows, etc.
But the best feature, IMO, was that every yard had a printed list of the inventory of every yard in every lobby. That meant that if you couldn't find the part you needed in one yard, you could read the list and see which of the other yards have vehicles you're working with. And, if you didn't buy a part, you got a yellow "get out of jail free" card, good for free admission. So you only paid once.
I moved away from Portland several years ago, but still get down there two to four times per year, and sometime over the last few years they've eliminated both the "get out of jail free" card and the inventory lists. They still have clean yards, but it's a damned shame about the inventory lists.

Al S.

Don't get me wrong, I don't pocket things on a consistent basis, but the JY I got my injectors from wants $6 each for injectors that I don't even know if they work, let alone leak, etc. So there, I don't bother. They get enough $$$ from me anyway, and when they pay somebody $50 for a car, make $300 and crush the car, regardless of what parts are left, it is hard for me to feel any remorse. It's a win-win situation in my eyes.
There are other yards though that I have paid in the neighborhood of $10 for a complete fuel rail with injectors. All depens on where I happen to score the part.
I think the non pull-a-part yards are that way for insurance purposes. Lucky for me though, I know someone who knows people so sometimes I can get into those yards and look around. I never liked the yards where they clean and inventory parts and you pay for it.

On the flip side, the inventoried parts are available via car-part.com, which I really like. Not as fun as visiting a real JY in person, but I can also buy parts from a long way away, when they're inventoried part-by-part.83_maxima wrote:I never liked the yards where they clean and inventory parts and you pay for it.
