Emission System Removal Any Benefits?

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Emission System Removal Any Benefits?

#1

Post by justanother54321 »

I have an 82 720 with the SD 22. I currently have the manifolds off and I am considering not reinstalling the EGR and its accompanying parts.

I will also be converting the vehicle to run on svo after I get my spare IP rebuilt with the appropriate type seals.

Are there any benefits or draw backs to removing the emissions system?

Any comments are much appreciated.

I removed my EGR years ago. bought the truck back in 10-81. hasn`t hurs anything by removing it. I made a plate to cover the hole as I remember.

There is all those other vacuum items as I remember that I removed also. It`s all in a box out in the barn some where.

I haven`t gone the WVO route, just run Diesel #2 for the past 464K miles

The SD22 in Calif. was fitted with EGR; I don't think any other states got it.

There seems to be no downside in removing the EGR on this engine, other than increased NOx emissions.

AHHHH, good to know about the EGR. Did not know it was just Calif. I just love this state

Back in 81 when these little trucks first came on the market. I was interested in the Toyota Diesel PU first. no way was I going to buy a Datsun truck, let alone a King Cab or a red truck. so what do I end up getting???. watch what you say.

You could buy these little trucks anywhere in the world, except, Calif. isuzu, toyota, datsun etc...

It was the Datsuns that were cleared for the Ca emissions first. this has been the most dependable vehicle i have ever owned. plus no timing belt as all the others are. :D .
