1.7 liter diesel, 150K miles, 4 speed, am/fm cassette, 40+ mpg. newer tires, good brakes, good clutch, extra gauges for temperature and oil pressure

I bought this little gem in July thinking I could go from a Saab 900 to a Sentra but it’s too primitive. It has been really neat driving daily on biodiesel but I miss my automatic, heated seats, and air conditioning.

I took care of the little fixes/maintenance including: a new cool fan switch, cooling system flushed and fill, oil changed within the last 800 miles, replaced the missing window crank, cleaned the carpet and the trunk, oiled the locks, installed the stereo.

Things that don’t work are the automatic timer for the glow plugs (you have to push and hold a button for a few seconds instead), also the rear window defogger.

This car starts well and has a very smooth idol. I brought it by my mechanic (Han’s Automotive on Glisan) and they said it’s running great.

Basic realiable econobox transportation. This car starts and runs well. I've been running it on biodiesel since July. Interior is in good condition for a car of this age. The vinyl on the seats is in good condition, carpet is good, dash has some cracking but the previou owner covered the area with a piece of fabric. The previous owner also installed a seperate temperature and oil pressure gauges.

Interior:
Nissan AM/FM stereo with aftermarket speakers
Vinyl Seats, In good condition, driver seat has a couple of tears but the surface is still basically intact
Dash is still in good shape, previous owner covered the cracks with a piece of color matching fabric.

Glass is in good condition
All locks and windows work

Mechanical:
Good compression.
Starts well on colder mornings.

What do people know about the history and other details of the Sentra diesel? This is the only one I've ever seen.

I don't really know anything about the CD17, but the Sentra it's installed in is a econobox, not remotely like the current Sentra. I've driven one of that vintage and they can drive OK if they've been taken care of, but they are low on creature features. Though I imagine the mileage is a lot better than my fully-equipped Maximas.

There was a Sentra TD on ebay a while back. It wasn't all that far from me, maybe in Missouri. The engine had been opened up for a while IIRC. It brought more than I would have been willing to pay for an unknown engine situation.

I suspect that if coupled to a 5 speed these would get fairly decent mpg. If I run across any information on them I'll post back.

The Datsun/Nissan Sentra was just normally aspirated and never did have have a turbo. Otherwise the CD17 would be called the CD17-T and it wasn't ever factory here in the U.S. Around my area that has got to be considered one of the rarest diesel cars because I've never seen one in the 5 years I've driven a vehicle. The bad thing is the CD17 has a cast aluminum head, which doesn't make it very durable like the SD22 or LD28. So if it has been opened up it's probably due to the cylinder head or an overheating issue causing it not to operate correctly. I'd still buy the car though if I found one for a good deal. And it wouldn't be just good fuel mileage, but great because you'd easily probably see 45+ mpg in most driving. Still a cool and rare little car.

You're right, I had a brain fart, it was a Toyota Camry TD...D'oh!
