Has anyone tried or heard of someone droping a LD28 in a 720? Is it possible? Is it worth it?

I've heard of it being done. Firewall mods were required, because the trans had to shift back IIRC.

I'm looking for a later model ('95-on) Ranger for my LD28. It has a longer engine bay than the 720.

I'll keep a lookout. Finished with the wagon idea?

No, but for a useable-on-a-daily-basis vehicle, I could use a small, soft PU right now more than the old mid-sized steel-dash wagon that I've been thinking about for a decade.

So, not given up, but shoved further back.

I missed this thread when it was fresh, but you've got my attention now. How fully formed is your plan Al? I take it that you have done some measuring? I think an LD28 in a small pickup would be great.

I'm "fairly sure" that the LD28 can fit in a late ('94-on) Ranger without firewall mods, though A/C will probably be a challenge. I know the LD28 can fit in the bay where the 170ci Six resides in a Falcon. I measured them both in 2000, because I was almost ready to do it then. I've since turned down two free Falcon chassis, suitable for chopping up to fab the trans crossmember, because I just do not have room to put one long-term.

I am not in a position to do anything right now, my projects list is over-extended. I have the facilities, but not the time. I have to thin the herd of at least two, possibly three vehicles, finish at least one of the two generator projects, and some other things as well -- and resolve the dead Aero thing too, sooner rather than later: I can't tow without it, the F250 needs a head gasket, but no room at work until -- I get two or three vehicles out of here.

And like that.

Al S.
