Hitachi LR150 alternator with vac pump for sale

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

Hitachi LR150 alternator with vac pump for sale

#1

Post by goglio704 »

I have a Hitachi LR150 alternator with vac pump which I would like to sell. It was supposed to be the LR160 for the Maxima, but it is not. The condition of the alternator is not known. It does need brushes, and the threaded stud for the battery connection is partially stripped. Make me an offer. I would consider selling the vac pump separately if there is not interest in the combination.

Although I have a spare (on the "Vashon Truck", for which I will not need the Hitachi alternator even if I turn the engine into an SD11 -- it would get a Delco and not need vacuum; the "Bellingham Truck" is the one I rebuilt the alternator for this article, so it's already rebuilt), I am willing to store another. I consider yours a core. Repairing or replacing the stud could be tricky. I just looked, and it doesn't come with the diode assy.

I have no real interest in the vac pump either (they don't break, and I have three spares), but again I'd store it.

I hope it's worth more to someone else, but if not I can be your fallback situation: I'll offer $20 plus another ~$25 to get it here. That's a lot to me, to store a core alternator I may never need, but who knows?

Having been inside a couple of them, I wouldn't put one in without going through it, replacing the brgs and seal, brushes, and diode assy. I would probably roll the dice on the VR though.

[BTW, the 1982 720 FSM claims that the alternator for the 720 SD22 is an LR160-97B. See the upper left corner of this drawing.]

As you might expect, it is very similar to the LR160. The case appears identical. I notice the 150 lacks a terminal in the multipoint plug compared to the 160. Seems like the 160 would be a nice upgrade for the 150? A while back I saw an auction for an alternator / vac pump combo for the UD Nissan trucks. It too was very similar. Seems like some of those might be even higher output.
