I have a friend close to Des Moines here that I've yacked with briefly about the SD33. He is a big IH Scout enthusiast and has one of the rare scout diesel models. He said there's a tight group that watches ebay for parts but if a motor hasn't been overhauled or is unknown, as in this case, nobody seems to want it. He also said that these had some nasty problems that are expensive to resolve.

There is a similar group of diesel IH Scout owners in the north Oregon area.

This is the rare and sought-after factory turbo one though.

Still, a reserve above $500 seems kind of optimistic for an engine that doesn't even have the Seller's promise that it runs OK. Could have a holed piston or worse. You have to buy it assuming it's a rebuildable core, or roll the dice.
