WTB: AC clutch

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

My compressor clutch is shot. I'd like to repair it before summer comes. If you have something please let me know, used is fine as long as it's in good working order.

thanks

Reading the Parts Catalogue, it's quite confusing.

There appear/seem to be four A/C compressors:

Compressor No. 1 (92600-W2110, supercedes -W2100) for all, up to Jun-81

Compressor No. 2 (92600-V2501, supercedes -V2500) for all, from Jul-81 to Jun-82

Compressor No. 3 (92600-D8101) for L24E, from Jul-82 to Oct-82
and for LD28, from Jul-82 on

Compressor No. 4 (92600-W3205) for L24E from Nov-82 on

No Hitachi number is listed for any of them. And, looking at this typical MJS170 compressor from my '83 Wagon:

there is no Nissan part No. on the labelling. So just how do you know which compressor to order a clutch for?

Every compressor has a different part No. for the clutch listed, so I doubt that they are interchangeable.

My car was built in 10/1981 but that still wouldn't let someone identify a lone compressor, so one removed from a car would/could be worthless without knowing the original application.

Thanks for the info Al, I might tinker with the existing clutch to see what can be done. Maybe there's part # info on there that I can find. The PO said the clutch gave him problems and somehow he "fixed" it. I doubt that whatever fix he did lasted too long.

I would be interested to know what Nissan would get for a new one.

The clutch for compressor 2 is further subdivided into two.

Jul-81 to Dec-81 is 92660-01L85, $270
Jan-82 to Jun-82 is 92660-01L90, $227

I don't mind so much the multiple part Nos., but the whole Parts Catlogue layout is so screwy -- and the Nissan FAST computerized version is even worse!

What's esp. bad about the A/C compressors is that the labels on mine don't have the Nissan part No. on them, like the alternators & starters do.

I took at gander at mine today while refitting the battery and the label looks the same as yours, so I'm not optimistic about finding much useful information there.

When the weather improves permanently I'll pull it around to the driveway and make a closer inspection of the situation. I hate to crack open the system.

thanks for the info Al

There is an '81 Diesel Sedan at the Lakewood JY. It has a compressor (somewhat greasy, but all hoses intact so probably no moisture intrusion, the bane of opened-up A/C systems). I had not even 1/3 the time I could have spent on this car, stripping it. Perhaps if you ask Carimbo nicely, he would pull it and ship it to you? It has either just arrived or will be crushed tomorrow, I can't tell; it's right next to an empty row (where they just hauled off a row to the crusher).

I have a couple of compressors. One is seized I think and the other may have been disassembled by a previous owner. In other words they are cores at best. If you still need a clutch, I can look at them this weekend to see what is what.
