Tuning with turbo (SD22 / '85 kc 4x4)

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

On all our tractors and both the company PSD's if I start them with no glow plugs they all spit white smoke in the cold. The SD22 spits a cloud and then its done with that, black smoke comes when you push the motor to a hard load. Again all our diesels do that too. Not talking about lots of smoke here, but some.

SD-2x are the only interests here. When misfires and/or visible smoke during engine loads, such are not optimal.

I will try pushing the screw in a little to help the smoke. I found that it creates less smoke if I lay into the throttle easy, also builds boost better that way.

Here is some videos of a guys Jeep who also runs an SD22, His is turboed in this video and I pretty much went along with his idea. I have a little less smoke than this. He has the smoke screw turned up with the waste gate set at 7psi.

Here is a test at 20PSI boost. Wastegate simply pinched shut.

He also tested a super charger on the SD22 but didnt like it.

For an SD22, that's a LOT of smoke coming out of that Jeep. Mine smoke not at all under full load. 'Course, they're snails too. Black is almost always too much fuel for the air available. It's not good for us, either.
