Help with IP controller idea

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Help with IP controller idea

#1

Post by zen »

well its time to fit mine if poss..

up to now i am using manual operated cable..it just gives run/stop..i want to go to electric controll..reasons..security.(wire it up to immobiliser) and prehaps(will try it) wired up to electronic crt(homemade) to shut off ip on decelleration..(for economy reasons.ala most modern systems)..

thing is the controller i have is 24v..the motor is 24v..the rest i can sort..now i guess your's is 12v..so have you ever had to replace the motor anyone??it looks like a windscreen/window motor..any ideas what jap motor uses the same motor in??(junk yard time!!)

or (very rusty on motor rewinding, colledge was 20yrs ago!)can i bodge the 24v motor windings to make it work on 12v??ie by paralling up every other armature winding??

i cant source the correct 12v controller here as most/all patrols were 24v..

thanks(anyone got a spare to sell?(am in the uk))
turbo it

There is a good thread on the DPC Control System, and I took an hour and wrote up a diagram on how to use a simple rotary switch to control the IPC motor.

But I wouldn't know where to obtain a 24v IPC motor.

I do have spare 12v IPC motors. I know that you cannot run the 12v motor at higher voltage, because it overspeeds and due to inertia will overrun the control contacts -- the motor is powered by a set of contacts until, due to motion of the contactor plate, a contact opens, but the motor takes so long to coast down that it spins the contactor plate around far enough to hit the next set of ON contacts, so the motor runs more or less continuously if you have too high voltage supplying it.

i will have a read up on your posts...thanks..

re the motor..i am after converting/acquiring a 12v motor..my car is 12v(range rover) but the dpc was from a nissan patrol (24v)

so the motor i have (24v) is no good to me unless it will run with enough torque on 12v??(one way to find out i guess!!)

oh can you direct me to your simple rotary switch post please...link takes me to caterpillar pics...(some pics though!!)

In that case, I can probably fix you up with a working 12v IPC motor.

I had transposed two numbers in the link. The link is fixed now. It's a post downthread in the DPC Control System thread anyway, so you'd have found it eventually.
