Can anyone tell me if i'm going to run into any trouble with putting an alternator from advance auto parts for an 82 720 on my ld20 thats going into my 92 4x4 m/t pick-up conversion. wow! that sentence actually hurt my brain. I've been staring at the only wiring print I have (89) all day thats probably why. already had one in and it didnt charge at all, so I sent it back and expecting a new one on the 30th. I'm not sure if the unit was bad or the way I had hooked it up. E-to ground strap, B to battery, S-to battery and L-to lite. thanx

Because someone here put a Maxima's LR160 60a alternator on a 720 SD, I assume the reverse can probably be done as well.

However, regarding your wiring . . . it's probably not plug-n-play, not entirely.

When using a 720 SD's LR150 50a alternator, you may need more than a simple charge light to kick-start the field and get it charging. Please see this post for a colorized version -- I took three hours on it, you may as well eat the cover .

The 720 uses both the idiot light and a bleed resistor for the L terminal. If the alternator won't come online, try paralleling two lamps (ie add an extra 194 lamp in parallel with the one you're already using).

It's possible that Nissan put that resistor in parallel so the alternator would still come online even if the charge lamp burned out, but you can't count on that.
