Age of engine

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Post by Land-Rover SI »

I have some trouble finding out the exact age my engine has.

Where is the serialnumber located and is there a way for me to find out wich year my engine is manufactured?

In the 1982 720 Pickup Factory Service Manual, page GI-6, the serial number location is shown. If you don't have a Nissan Factory Service Manual for you SD22, you should consider acquiring one!

Three different engines that I've had, but similar views. The "SD22" stamping on the block is under No. 1 glow plug.

I do not know how to determine the production year of an SD engine via the serial number, or any other means.
