Rear Sump and oil pickup to Front sump block

#1

Post by T-note »

Hi all,

I have an LD28 with a rear sump out of my Holden.
My inlaw has a good LD28 that he has recently pulled out of his vehicle that has a front sump.

I am preparing to put his LD28 into my vehicle, Things have been going smoothly - I Drilled and tapped the two new bolt holes mid-block for the oil pickup to go with the rear sump, Moved the dipstick into the appropriate place (looking at my old rear sump engine for reference).

Ive hit a snag

Can anyone please give me some advice on what to do with the oil pickup? Is there a way I can drill into the oil gallery without getting too much swarf in there? and maybe block off the front pickup hole with a plate?

The other thing we've thought of is fabricating a new longer oil pickup to run from the rear sump pan to the front pick up hole (but there doesnt seem to be enough clearance on this pan)

Or maybe run an external line from the front sump hole - through bottom of the pan and back in to the oil pickup where there is enough clearance?

I hope I am making some sort of sense & any thoughts, ideas or things I probably shouldnt do would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Terry

Hello there.

I believer there are a couple threads with examples of this fix. Search on "sump" and maybe "pickup" or "gallery" and see what comes up.

Seems as though one member decided that galley to rear is not drilled on his front-sump block, and he abandoned any attempt to use it. He went the well-trod route of fabricating an extended pickup tube.
