Question on return fuel line and alternator

#1

Post by JasperG »

Quick questions

Can I plug the return line on the IP? Will it hurt the pump? anything else? I am running my LD28 in a land rover which doesnt have a return on the tank.

I think this will work but can I run the alternator by just running a ignition + lead to the S terminal and then 12 volts to the battery on the big terminal? I wont be using any warning lights. IE I dont think I need to worry about the L and R terminal?

Why not T it into the fuel line.

the air would already have to be in there though yeah? so you would have issues allready...

you could run a return to the filler neck, feed it in from the top side of the neck..not hard to do

Thanks all, I thought about a T into the fuel line but thought that might cause back pressure? I could run a T to the filler neck no problem, I guess I should go that route, but ideally I would like to plug it if it didnt hurt anything. Is there a check valve or anything in the return line?

do you have an electric pump feeding the IP?

i do on mine,but i have a return aswell..

the return SHOULDNT (in theory) have extreme pressure that will cause problems...

give it a try....

just thinking out loud...
if u "t" the return line into the supply line how would u shut the engine off?
the shut off solenoid will shut off the correct inlet port, but now fuel can enter through the return line as it now see's the same fuel pressure as the inlet....?????
I guess it depends on where u "t" the line... b4 or after the pump.
and you do not want to just cap the return line off either.
What rover product is it going into?

I would put the T before the IP. The IP will still be in control of engine running.

One reason there's extra fuel through the system is to keep the IP cooled down a little and lubricated.

Thanks for the help. I guess I am going to run a return line. Didnt think about shutting the engine down. I am running electric fuel pump that comes on with the key, do you think I need something else to shut it down?
Its going into a series rover on a Discovery frame. LT95 trans with an adapter plate. Spent the day working on the damn bellhousing as it was in the way of the starter. Grinding away and I thought I got enough of the area out of the way but the starter is still sticking I believe. Hell I dont even know if its good, but it works fine out of the vehicle? What a pain. I will be sure to. I got it turning over tonight after clearancing the bellhousing some more and removing the new alternator which had locked up solid. I did some research and found the cut off solenoid. I assume it gets 12v but is that with key on or off? I suspect key on. Thanks
