i have a SD22 engine for sale
it is still in a truck that i drive to work most of the time. the truck body is rusting apart and i am going to use some of the other parts when i put a new SD 22 in my 4WD truck i am working on the oil pan at this time.
back to the engine I am asking for $500 I will be keeping the trans and starter.
it is in the truck so uoy could drive the truck and test it out. I will remove it after some one pay for it.

I am also looking for overhaul parts for an SD22. My truck has 300k on it and is burning lots of oil. I'm brand new to the forum and appreciate any suggestions anyone has.

Hi all, this is my first post here, new to the forum, but not new to these SD-22 Diesel engines. have had mine for 29 yrs and 463K miles.

I replaced my original engine at 234K when she was blowing some blue smoke usually in stop and go traffic on the freeway.

I bought a used engine from Jesco in Ceries, Ca. back in the 90`s, from Joe when he was still around. was a really nice guy.

A few years later I had some problems with it knocking. I was rebuilding the original engine at the time, fininshed it up and swapped it back in.

when i pulled the head on the used engine, there was a problem with #1 piston. pulled it out, and there was 6 pieces of ring jambed into the piston.
this used engine has 5 rings. I have no idea what it was used in originally.probably shipped over from japan used.

The original engines installed in these vehicles have 3 ring pistons.

Iam wondering if the E-bay listing above is a 3 or 5 ring piston kit? I was under the impression over the years the industrial engines are 5 rings.

The 5 ring engine actually got a little better milage and power wise was a little better.

Very interesting thread, I`ll have to reread it to get it through the bone structure what I read.

I got an answer from the e-bay engine kit rebuild listing.

Call them and talked to a Dave, Charlie was out to lunch. he said this kit comes with the 3 rings.
